In August, we celebrated a full year of 6RG, marking twelve months of growth, success, and a firm commitment to doing things differently in the world of clerk of works services.
6RG was founded to meet a clear demand in the UK for more client-centric, transparent oversight on construction and fit-out projects. The role of the clerk of works, though essential, has been given a bad reputation by some as it’s often seen as overly critical and detached from the positive progress on-site. We wanted to change that by bringing a fresh perspective where client interests are championed with positivity and a constructive approach.
When we started 6RG, we set out with strong values, focusing on health and safety, quality, and environmental responsibility. Our team believes that by staying independent from project managers, design teams, and contractors, we can better serve our clients as truly impartial advocates. We also saw the need for a reliable, clear process to guide our work and interactions. This became our three-step method—Review, Inspect, and Report—which has been at the heart of every project we take on. This approach lets us step back, understand the full scope of a project, and approach inspections and reports with purpose and precision.
Our approach has been validated by a series of rewarding achievements, including projects across multiple cities in the UK and Ireland. Among them is our work with Trinity College Dublin, where our contract was extended to support the project through commissioning and handover—a testament to the strong, collaborative relationships we aim to build with our clients.
Although we began small, our business has already seen exciting growth. We recently welcomed a new full-time clerk of works, and we’re planning to launch an apprenticeship programme in 2025 to bring in new talent as we invest in the future of our industry. Our commitment to growth and learning has defined our first year and helped us to understand who our clients are, what they need, and how we can continually adapt our services to meet their unique requirements. Alongside the technical elements of our work, we make it a priority to recognise good practices on-site and acknowledge where teams are meeting or exceeding standards. We believe this positivity is just as important as identifying areas for improvement, as it creates an atmosphere of mutual respect and builds stronger working relationships.
Looking ahead, we’re excited about our second year in business and our plans for 2025. We aim to move into a net-zero office and launch a new reporting platform that will allow clients and contractors to engage with our observations in real-time, with photos, documents, and notifications.
As we continue to grow, we’re focused on keeping 6RG true to its founding values: independence, client-centred service, and a commitment to quality and positive progress. We’re grateful for the trust our clients have placed in us over this first year and look forward to what the future holds.
